The
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's
designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and
regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental
policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing
emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international
community for action. UNEP's Division of Environmental Policy Implementation
(DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing technical
assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental law
and policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of
developing countries and countries with economies in transition. A Reducing
Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Team has been
established within DEPI to develop a UNEP-wide strategic approach and project
portfolio for forests and climate change as part of and to advance the
implementation of the UN-REDD Programme (www.un-redd.org).
The UN-REDD Programme is the United Nations collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries. The post is located in the Terrestrial Ecosystems Unit of UNEP, DEPI in the Geneva duty station. |

Responsibilities
|
||||
|
|
||||
|
Under
the supervision of the Green Economy Advisor, UNEP/UN-REDD, and in close
cooperation with the Senior Programme Officer for Forests and Climate Change in UNEP DEPI, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 1. Work with National UN-REDD Focal Points and other key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitor and analyze specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and tracks follow-up actions. 2. Carry out research on selected aspects of REDD+ within the UNFCCC, operations and other activities. 3. Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging development issues and trends, participation in impact evaluation or equivalent studies. 4. Assist in planning and facilitating workshops. 5. Participate in survey initiatives; issue data collection tools, reviews, analyze and interpret responses, identify problems/issues and prepare preliminary conclusions. 6. Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, in particular the semi-annual and annual reports of the UN-REDD Programme. 7. Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, among others, including proposing agenda topics, identify and propose participants, preparation of background documents and presentations. 8. Undertake outreach activities; participate in the development of training workshops, seminars; participate in and make presentations on assigned topics or activities. 9. Participate in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection. 10. Coordinate activities related to budget funding (programme or project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and preparation of related documents or reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget). 11. Perform other duties as required. |

Education

Advanced
university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in natural resource
management, economics, political sciences or a related field is required. A
first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of
qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university
degree.

Work Experience
|
||||
|
|
||||
|
A
minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in
project/programme management, administration or related area. Working
experience in the United Nations System is an advantage.
|
||||
|

Languages
|
||||
|
|
||||
|
English
and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For
this post, fluency in written and oral English is required. Working
knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.
