Job SummaryUnder direct supervision, this position provides a broad range of cost-effective, high quality legal services while representing Travelers. Legal services may include: general legal counseling, compliance counseling, contract drafting and negotiation, management of litigation, resolution of disputes with or on behalf of the companys insureds, management of regulatory relationships, support for a broad array of business initiatives, and recognition, analysis and response to emerging issues and trends. This position handles matters of relatively lesser complexity and exposure. Complexity increases as experience is acquired. Also requires a developing knowledge of the business context in which legal work is performed. This position does not lead others.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities(May include all or the majority but not limited to these components.) Provides high quality, cost effective legal advice and recommendations for action to business clients regarding matters or relatively lesser complexity which have or may have a dollar impact on business activities and operations. Applies knowledge of legal specialty while developing a deeper knowledge of the business operations. Researches legal precedents and principles within area of specialization or expertise. With guidance, identifies and communicates risk to internal and/or external customers and provides recommendations on how to mitigate that risk. Works with inside and/or outside counsel to research legal requirements, issues and consults on legal strategies within area of specialization or expertise. Drafts, negotiates and executes legal documents. Maintains awareness of judicial climate and legal developments through the review of legal publications, on-line documentation and attendance at seminars and conferences. Learns and understands customers expectations and key department business goals and assists them in meeting those goals. Builds and maintains strong internal and external client relationships. May act as mentor and coach to paralegal/staff; explains issues, ideas and concepts that are incorporated into work assignments. Makes effective use of technology and automation in the practice of law. Ensures timely submission of work product as required. Litigation Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities: After consultation, works under the supervision of experienced counsel in reviewing litigation files and learning about the litigation process. Drafts and/or reviews pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other file documents under the supervision of experienced counsel. Attends court events and other appointments with or under the supervision of experienced counsel. Other duties as assigned.
